Members of Caribou High School’s championship tennis team were guests recently of the local Rotary Club to talk about the school’s first victory in boys’ tennis.
The Vikings’ team beat Falmouth to finish the year with 75 wins and no losses.
During the Rotary visit, Coach John Habeeb and CHS Athletic Director David Wakana described the matches that led to the team’s victory.
“It was like (watching) the U.S. open,” said Wakana.
In addition to their athletic prowess, Wakana said that tennis players also are very “academic” students. They have a combined grade point average of 91.6, said the AD, who also is the vice principal at CHS.
Coach Habeeb, who also teaches special education at Caribou Middle School, presented the team members attending the luncheon “with great pride.” He pointed to the team members’ skill and sportsmanship.
“When we put on the Caribou uniform, it means something,” Habeeb said.
The coach, who has worked in children’s sports for 21 years, offered many thanks to various local officials who gave him a chance to coach.
Habeeb already is looking forward to the next year of competition.
“Whether we win or lose, we’ll never forget this year,” said Habeeb.
