HOULTON, Maine — The Church has left the building, and this Sunday, Houlton will look a lot fresher because of it. Military Street Baptist Church is putting their faith into action by changing their regular indoor Sunday services to practice very purposeful acts of kindness and volunteerism throughout the community.
Volunteers from the church will be joining together to pick up trash in various areas of town, visit the nursing homes, and prepare care packages for local, and international missions and military for a total of five work projects, many of them intergenerational, which will be held over what is being called Faith in Action Sunday.
“We’re excited about how our congregation has rallied to support this special weekend of service to our community. Our Sunday schedule has been changed from two services to a single 9 AM gathering time for praise and communion together. We invite everyone to join us. Just come at 9:00 and we will connect you to a service team,” says Pastor Randall Burns, Lead Pastor of the Military Street Baptist Church.
Volunteers from the Military Street Baptist Church, along with members of other local churches, already set a precedent by volunteering to clean up after the Fourth of July parade this year, which was very helpful, according to fair board members.
