ST. ALBANS, Vt. – Leona H. Keith, 81, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, July 5, 2008, at Northwestern Medical Center. She was born in East Hodgdon, Aug. 9, 1926, the daughter of the late Henry and Emma (Duff) Higgins.
On Dec. 4, 1949, Leona married Robert H. Keith in Houlton. Robert survives her. They have lived in Vermont for the past year, coming from Vero Beach, Fla., where they resided for several years. Leona enjoyed sewing, knitting, and quilting as well as bowling and square dancing. She had been a member of the "F&G Squares" square dance group. She was a graduate of Hodgdon High School in Hodgdon and a member of Vero Community Church in Vero Beach, Fla.
In addition to her husband of more than 58 years, Robert of St. Albans, Vt.; she is survived by a son and his wife, Mark and Mindy Keith of Standish; two daughters and their husbands, Jan and Jeff Young of St. Albans, Vt., Judy and Richard Sandstrom of Franklin, Tenn.; five sisters, Ethel and Earl Hawkins of Boynton Beach, Fla., Alene and Richard Call of Vero Beach, Fla., Glennice Stevens and her boyfriend Frank D'Alessandro of Hartford, Conn., Rowena Circo of Ponte Verde, Fla., and A.J. and Dave Record of Maui, Hawaii. She also leaves nine grand-children, Jamie Sinclair, Jay Young, Sarah Trahan, Jon Young, Shelli Young, Mitchell and Matthew Keith, C.J. Sandstrom and Shelby Sandstrom; nine great-grandchildren, Gadge, Keith, Kendra, Nicole, Lynn, Jenna, Aaron, Hudson and Hunter; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Wayne Keith in October of 2007; and a brother, Henry Higgins.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, in the First Congregational Church in St. Albans, Vt. Pastor Judith Steger Kennedy was officiate. Visitation was on Tuesday, in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans, Vt. The Heald Funeral Home was assisting Leona's family with arrangements.
