According to Sgt. Scott Wilcox of the Orono PD, his department received a file Sunday night from Maine Drug Enforcement Agency’s Houlton branch asking them to be on the lookout for a 1990 Ford Mustang that was suspected of making a drug run from Houlton to Connecticut and back. The report included vehicle color, registration number and a caution that the occupants may be carrying weapons.
A vehicle fitting the description was stopped by Orono police Monday at approximately 10:30 a.m., near the Forrest Avenue overpass. Officers clocked the northbound Mustang, driven by Brigitte Dupont, 39, of Houlton, at 75 mph. Other occupants in the car were Oliver Cromwell, the owner; Carol Cromwell, his wife; and the Cromwells’ 5-year-old son. Although there were no weapons in the car, Sgt Wilcox and Officer Andrew Whitehouse did find a bolt for a .22 caliber gun and an ammunition clip.

Sgt. Wilcox said heroin and cocaine was confiscated from the vehicle and arrests were made. He would not disclose the amount of narcotics seized. The vehicle was towed to the Orono police station and a more extensive search of the vehicle was being done at presstime. Sgt. Wilcox said a narcotics canine had detected the possibility of more drugs concealed elsewhere in the Mustang during the initial stop.
Both Cromwells, both 33, were charged with felony possession of heroin, a Class C offense. The couple is being held in the Penobscot County Jail on $2,000 cash bail each. Dupont was charged with operating after suspension and possession of cocaine and was released from county jail after posting $1,000 cash bail. All three were arraigned yesterday in Bangor’s 3rd District Court.
