Woods named new head of Caribou Pet Rescue

Chief Roy (Jack) Woods of the Caribou Fire and Ambulance has been elected as the new head of Caribou Pet Rescue (CPR).
Past president, Norma Milton stepped down mid-term citing personal family reasons as well as the shelter needing a leader who could best advise and lead the shelter through the touch economic times ahead.
“Jack Woods was my favorite choice as our new leader,” commented Milton. “He has the knowledge and contacts needed to keep CPR on track and I was feeling very torn emotionally between my family and the shelter. This was a necessary and good change for CPR.”
Caribou Pet Rescue, Inc. was started on March 3, 2006 as a result of 3 friends, Norma Milton, Caprice Miller and Connie Tucker, discussing during a January luncheon their deep distress over the high euthanasia rate for stray animals in Aroostook County. “Our concern was that we felt we were not being heard and were not able to make a difference for the animals.”  Milton commented.
“First we discussed dreamily what our personal ideas of a good shelter would be. Then we started musing on the idea of actually starting a shelter!  Finally when Connie commented that while we were talking more animals were dying, it hit me like a ton of bricks. We had to do it. We felt compelled to try to make a difference.”
According to Milton, Caribou Pet Rescue has now offered refuge to over 1400 stray animals and the public response to CPR has been ultra-supportive.
She added that the next two years will be extremely important for the pet rescue. “I have no doubt concerning Jack’s ability, compassion, integrity and commitment to Caribou Pet Rescue. He will lead us on the right paths,” she stated.
Milton will remain on the board of directors, continue chairing two committees, writing grants and caring for pets with special needs.
