A new generation continues shoe repair tradition at Cole’s

PRESQUE ISLE – There is a fresh face in the business at Cole’s Star City Shoe Repair.
On May 1,2005 ownership of the business was passed down a generation from Ralph Cole to his nephew Andrew.     “I have determined that there is a need for this type of business in the area,” the younger Cole said. “This skill has been part of my family for generations.”
Cole’s Star City Shoe Repair was established in 1980 and has been keeping shoes on the feet of the people of Presque Isle ever since, but shoes are not the only thing they specialize in.
“We provide a full range of shoe repair services including full or half soles and heels, orthopedic lifts on all footwear, shoe shining and finishing, dying, sewing and re-stitching including hand stitching,” Cole said.
The business offers a full line of leather goods from belts to harnesses and Texas Western boots and Carolina work shoes and boots. They also do zipper repair and replacement and heavy-duty sewing and patching.
“Developing a clientele of people who keep coming back is the most important part of the business,” Cole said. “Prompt service, fair prices and trust in my skills and willingness to try to fix anything are the keys to developing that.”
Cole is the only employee at the business and says the secret to his family’s success is keeping their customers satisfied.
“People need things repaired,” Cole said. “Quality leather goods and shoes can become expensive and I can save people money in repairs rather than forcing them to buy new and expensive items.”
Cole’s Star City Shoe Repair is located at 692 Main Street in Presque Isle. Cole can be reached by phone at 764-8533.
