Presque Isle youth hockey
    Presque Isle youth hockey is looking for adults interested in coaching or helping out with its five levels of youth hockey teams. Anyone interested in getting involved, please email aroostookhockey@yahoo.com.
Aroostook Football League
    The Aroostook Football League 2008 season is underway with practices being held at Sincock Field in Caribou for the high school players.
    This year marks the opening season of Central Aroostook middle school football. The program begins August 30 at NMCC. Registration of players and volunteers is ongoing at this time.

Sports History
    As part of Caribou’s sesquicentennial celebrations in 2009, The Aroostook Republican will run photographs and stories about the history of the city.

MWSC announcements

    Mojo’s will host a family and friends cruiser ride on Saturday, Aug. 23 in Presque Isle as part of the Balloon Fest activities.
    The ride is free to the public. For more information, call 760-9500.
    Several group biks rides will be held every week. For mountain biking: Mondays at the Nordic Heritage Center at 6 p.m. for intermediate level, Tuesdays at the NHC at 6 p.m. for all levels, Tuesdays at 6 p.m. at the NHC is the kids’ mountain biking club, Wednesdays at the NHC for moderate ride at 6 p.m., Saturdays at the NHC at 2 p.m. for all abilities. For road rides: Mondays at Mojo’s at 5:30 p.m. for women of all levels, Tuesdays from S.W. Collins in Caribou at 5:30 p.m. for fast-paced ride, Thursdays from Mojo’s at 5:30 p.m. for fast-paced ride, Thursdays from Stockholm School at 5:45 p.m., Thursdays from Mojo’s from 6:45 to 8 p.m. is family and friends cruiser ride, Saturdays from Mojo’s at 8 a.m. for all levels.
    Aroostook River paddle nights will be held weekly from Washburn to Presque Isle on Wednesday nights at 5:30 p.m. Paddlers will meet at Perception of Aroostook, 9 Caribou Road, Presque Isle for a two to three hour casual paddle. A kayak shuttle is available for $10, and rentals for $30. For more information, contact Leo Freeman at 764-5506.
    Aroostook River paddle nights will be held weekly beginning at the Caribou Dam boat landing on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. For more information, contact Fran Cyr at fracyr@hotmail.com.
Hunting safety course
    Presque Isle Adult Education will offer a hunter safety class for those who desire to purchase their first adult hunting license.
    Students must be 10-years-old or older to attend and 10- to 12-year-olds must be accompanied by an adult.
    Maximum class size will be 25, and priority will be given to those 15 and older. Students are required to prepare a survival kit before the class is over.
    A registration fee of $5 will be charged. All classroom materials will be provided by Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
    Classes will be held at the Presque Isle High School on four Thursday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. starting on Aug. 28 and ending Sept. 18.
    Attendance is mandatory at all classes; only emergency absences may be made up. The primary instructor will be John Graves.
