The Blizzard and Galaxy kicked off the season with an exciting high paced game. The Blizzard jumped out to the early lead thanks to three quick goals from Brittany Warner. Warner used a flash of speed to pick up the first two goals unassisted, while Amy Seeley picked up the assist on the third goal.     The Galaxy was down but not defeated, as they stormed back with three goals of their own to tie it up late. Nicole Plourde got the Galaxy on the board, connecting on a pass from teammate Skyler McAtee. McAtee cut the deficit to one moments later as she tallied an unassisted goal. Hailey St Thomas converted a Kailey McKenney pass to tie the game up with just minutes left on the clock. Warner wouldn’t be denied though, breaking through for her fourth goal of the game with two minutes to go in the game to give the Blizzard the 4-3 decision.
Heather Kirk and Amy Seeley combined for some spectacular saves in goal for the Blizzard, and Victoria Williamson and Kimberly Cook provided the Galaxy with some fine defensive play.
The Tornado scored five goals in the first eight minutes en route to the victory over the Hurricane in the second game of the season. Grace Player started the scoring flurry, taking a pass from Emily Sjoberg and drilling it into the back of the net. Elise Guerrette picked off a Hurricane pass seconds later and put the Tornado up by two with a blast of her own.
Libbee Currie and Breanna Byrd used some fantastic passing to work the ball up the field for the Hurricane in hopes of getting their team on the board, but the defense of Marisa Sloan quickly turned them away.
On the ensuing transition, the Player-Sjoberg combo hooked up again for another goal. Guerrette stole the Hurricane kick off and shot a pass to teammate Madison Bearden. Bearden used some fancy footwork to find the back of the net, just passed the outstretched hands of Hurricane goalie McKenzie Turner. Sjoberg and Bearden each netted one more goal heading into intermission.
The Hurricane came out of the half looking to cut into the Tornado lead. Casey Lovely and Sarah Morneault created some great scoring opportunities, but they couldn’t solve the Tornado defense.
The Hurricane defense tightened up as well, as most of the play was in the middle third of the field. Player used her speed to break through and tally two more goals, and Bearden completed her hat trick as she and Natalie Bates displayed some free kick mastery.

Khasen Lowe’s burst of speed gave the Missiles the early lead in the inaugural game of the season last Tuesday against the Crunch. Josiah Morse got the equalizer for the Crunch just before the half on an unassisted goal. The second half was similar to the first half as each team battled for field position. Each Missiles’ attack was thwarted by the defensive efforts of Micah Taubin and Alex Tilley just as the Crunch couldn’t solve the mystery of the Missiles defense, spearheaded by Josh Baldwin and Carter Bruce.
Morse used some quick moves and broke through to put his team up 2-1 midway through the second half. Marcus Ouellette knotted the score at 2-all with minutes to play when he converted off a corner kick from the foot of David Kofstad. Neither team could slide past the opponent’s defense again and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
The Blast and Sounders collided in the second game of the day. All the scoring was done late in the first half of this contest. Jake Kinney put the Blast on top as he dribbled through the crowd and beat the Sounders’ Bradley Kinney with a well placed shot. Issac Devine got the equalizer three minutes later, using some nifty moves to separate from the pack and slipping the ball just past the reach of Blast keeper Denny Young. Jake Kinney found the back of the net with less than a minute left in the first half to propel the Blast to the 2-1 win.
Both teams had plenty of chances in the second half, but Sounders keeper Colin Daigle and Blast goalie Nick Bartlett each made some outstanding saves. Isaac Madore also played incredible defense for the Blast, stopping numerous Sounders attacks.
The Missiles and Drillers hooked up in quite the defensive battle. The Missiles dictated play early as Khasen Lowe and Adam Paterson created some wonderful goal scoring chances. Drillers’ keeper Grant Stewart made some great saves and was helped by the trio of Drew Henderson, Ryan Cochran, and RJ Gross. Gross’s long clearing pass out of traffic found the waiting foot of teammate Griffin Guerrette, and Guerrette used a burst of speed to snake away from the trailing defenders and put the Drillers on top just before halftime.
The second half was more of the same. Each time the Missiles built a scoring opportunity they were turned away by Drillers’ goalie Alex Brewer. The Drillers couldn’t get past the defensive efforts of Carter Bruce, Thomas Patenaude, and Jack Beaulieu. Finally Gavin Kelley was able to corral a loose ball in front of the Missiles net and blast it home to give the Drillers the 2-0 advantage, and that was how the game ended.

Rachel Maxwell scored once in each half to help lead the Crew to the 2-0 victory over the Clash to kick off the season. The first goal came as a result of slamming home a rebound in front of the Clash net. Clash goalie Jessica Cameron had made multiple saves, but Maxwell was finally able to find the back of the net as her shot slipped just past Cameron.
Hilary Boucher and Amanda Palmer worked to get the equalizer for the Clash, but Crew keeper Cameo Madore was up to the challenge, turning away all would be scoring opportunities. Maxwell added a second goal in the second half when she intercepted a pass and converted on a one on one with the goalie. Jessica Baldwin and Alex Michaud contributed on defense for the Clash, and the Crew’s defense was anchored by Renee Browning and Tori Harvath.
Angela Hallowell’s hat trick propelled the Rapids to the 3-1 decision over the Mutiny. Hallowell’s first two goals came on breakaways as she used superior skill and foot speed to maneuver behind the Mutiny defense.
The Rapids took a 2-0 lead into intermission and looked to add on. However, the Mutiny were the ones who came out on the offensive. Katelyn Ford and Shaye McHatten created some fantastic scoring runs for the Mutiny, but they were all for naught as Kalie Ward and Alison Bell were the force behind an impenetrable wall of defense for the Rapids.
Hallowell’s third goal came as a result of the Mutiny pressure, as she took a long clearing pass the distance and hammered it into the goal. The Mutiny got on the board late as Ashley Trask was finally able to break through and put her team on the board.

The Kicks and Sting opened up the season with a classic battle in the trenches. The name of the game was defense in this one. Eddie Kilcollins of the Sting did his best Jonathan Papelbon impression, shutting out all the opponents he came upon. Sting keeper Byron Winslow snagged any shot that may have squeaked by Kilcollins.
On the other side, Caleb Nadeau was active in the net for the Kicks and was helped out by the defensive efforts of Cole Staples. The teams headed into the second half knotted at zero as both teams searched for ways to crack through the other’s defense.     The Kicks were finally able to thanks to a well timed pass from Cooper Madore, who slid a through ball onto the foot of teammate Sam Gray, who buried the shot into the back corner of the net to give the Kicks the lone goal of the game.
Parker Lambert’s free kick just three minutes into the game got the scoring going in the Strikers/Express match up. The Strikers tied it up just minutes before intermission on an unassisted blast from Noah Rossignol.
The game resembled a life-sized pinball game to start the second half as Nick Powers and Brenden Goulet couldn’t be passed for the Strikers, nor could John Freeman or Brian Fournier of the Express. Clint Adler punched in the game winner for the Express with just six minutes remaining when he crushed in a loose ball in front of the Strikers net.
