Houlton – Roger Knapp Oliver, 83, died September 5, 2008, at a local health care facility. He was born August 5, 1924, at Amity the son of Omar and Virginia (Knapp) Oliver.
Roger attended Cary and Amity schools, he then joined the army in 1944 and served with the 82nd Airborne Div. During WWII. After the war he returned home and went to work as a long-haul truck driver and later worked for the town of Houlton. After his retirement Roger volunteered to drive the dialysis van to Bangor one day a week. He was a member of the Houlton American Legion and VFW.
Roger is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis of Houlton; three daughters, Wanda Parks and her husband Michael of Houlton, Shirley Oliver of Houlton, Kathy Mooers and her husband Albert E. IV of Bangor; his grandchildren, Benjamin Parks and his wife Tracy of Fort Fairfield, Bethany Parks of Brewer, Megan Mooers of Storrs, CT, and Kendra Mooers of Bangor; he is also survived by one brother, Donald Oliver of Haynesville; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held at the Houlton Evergreen Cemetery 11 a.m. Monday with Rev. Namoi Sam’Kpakra as officiate. Friends may make gifts in Roger’s memory to HRH Progressive Care Unit Activity Fund, c/o Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park Street, Houlton 04730.
