“The Caribou Fire and Ambulance has held several fund-raisers over the past couple of years in order to raise money for a number of projects,” stated Caribou firefighter/paramedic Danny Raymond. “Our fund-raisers have included Marko the Magician, car washes, a hunters’ breakfast and comedy shows, are among many others.”
The large group also raise money for projects including the Caribou Children’s Discovery Museum, the Learn Not To Burn program, local area Boy Scout Troops, the Pine Tree Burn Foundation; Cary Medical Center’s Camp Adventure (diabetes camp) and of course the Toys for Tots program, which will be delivered this year on Dec. 20.
“Last fall the Caribou Fire and Ambulance voted to take on the community Christmas lights project, committing ourselves to putting new lights on our tower. Raymond said the old lights on the tower were destroyed by high winds two years ago, ruining a 20 -plus history of lights being on our tower during the Christmas season,” stated Raymond.
The firefighter went on to say that, ”During the past summer, volunteers and full-time personnel have been working on the light project for our tower so we could restore the long-time tradition at the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department,” “These new lights are LEDs (light emitting diodes), which use half the amount of electricity as the previous standard light bulbs and last much longer,” he continued.
Raymond, speaking for the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department noted, “ We have felt that Christmas lights are an important part of our community and we wish to invite everyone to watch as Santa turns on our Christmas lights during the ceremony which will be held at the Fire Station at 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 28.”
“This will be our initial lighting of the new Christmas light display,” noted Raymond.
Community residents are reminded that the tree downtown, which was planted approximately ten years a go, for the purpose of featuring holiday lights, will be the center of the CFD tree lighting ceremony next year.
