Ricker Rumblings

Hello everyone. The holiday weekend has passed and now we are preparing for an even larger one — Christmas!
Witnessed the lighting ceremony in the square on Saturday night. That was awesome and because the weather was mild lots more saw it too! The floats and what not were very good.
Sadie Carmichael is our newest tenant on the first floor. We wish Sadie a long and happy life here.
Had Thanksgiving in the community room on Wednesday afternoon. Charlene and Brian served turkey, ham, baked potatoes, gravy with lots of squash, mince pie and pumpkin cake. Delicious and we thank you very much.
The dinner at St. Mary’s on Thanksgiving day was well attended. Many of the diners took dinners home too. Channel 8 was there taking pictures and many saw their picture on the news that night. Awesome!
Kathryn Hall was a visitor of her mother, Lois Downing, over the weekend.
Leann Nason has been the guest of her aunt, Shirley Nason, over the weekend.
The thought for the day is taken from 2 Thessalonians 3:16: “May the Lord of peace himself give you his peace no matter what happens. The Lord be with you all.”

The Emerson Store will hold it’s annual cookie sale on Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Hot beverages will be served throughout the day and a pound of assorted homemade cookies and squares will be available at $5. The store will be open on Wed. thru Fri. 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. through Dec. 19.
The Country Jamboree, which is held every Wednesday at the Big Valley Snow Club. It is still going strong and on Nov. 19 a potluck supper was held. Two big turkeys were baked and brought by Clayton and Charlene Webb, and others brought the traditional “fixins”. All this was much enjoyed by the many that were there and there were no “leftovers”.
Clayton and Charlene Webb were guests on Thanksgiving of their niece and family, Greg and Darlene Kenny. Dinner was held at the Kenny cottage on Green Lake, with turkey, homemade rolls, dressing, salads and lots of desserts. The Webbs have since returned home.
Finally saw a small red squirrel in my feeder the other day and still have the one gray squirrel, too, helping himself to all the sunflower seeds. Keeps me busy, now, filling up the feeders. And shooing the black cat away so he won’t get any of them. Also, the deer have returned back to grazing in my back yard so am using up the donated old bread for them along with cut-up apples. There has been only one sighting of a buck in my yard. Wonder if he made it thru the hunting season?
Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Varney were joined at Thanksgiving by their son and wife, Nickie and Carol Varney and assorted grandchildren, all who returned home to Winterport after the traditional dinner, and visiting.
Now have a little red squirrel getting into my feeders—first one I’ve seen in quite awhile. He will now be in competition with the gray squirrel and I’m afraid the gray squirrel, because of his size may keep the red one from eating many seeds. I will watch and see. Still have lots of birds and they don’t seem to be much in awe of the squirrels. Finally had three doe deer in my back yard the other afternoon. Am busy now giving out the donated old bread for them and they really like it—it goes fast.
