Athletes awarded at banquet

    The Maine Soccer Coaches held the 35th annual all-star banquet on Sunday, Dec. 7 at the Spectacular Events Center in Bangor. Nominated for the All New England boys’ and girls’ teams were senior midfielders Russ Mortland and Sarah Porter, both of Presque Isle.     Scott Young, Presque Isle boy’s varsity soccer coach was awarded as Coach of the Year for boy’s Eastern Maine District.
    Athletes nominated to the boy’s Eastern Maine Class B State Team were, from Presque Isle:  junior Dillon Kingsbury at keeper, seniors Russ Mortland at midfielder, Warren Zubrick at forward and Evan Richards at back.  In boy’s Eastern Maine Class D, seniors Jacob Paradis at forward and Jeremey Tarr at midfield were nominated from Ashland.
    In girls nominations for Eastern Maine Class B, they were: sophomore Jenna Selander at forward, junior Brittany Doak at keeper, senior Amber Griffin at back, senior Kayla Legassie and senior Sarah Porter at midfield. Selander and Doak are from Caribou and Griffin, Legassie and Porter are from Presque Isle.
    Girl’s Eastern Maine Class D student-athlete nominations were, from Ashland,  junior Taylor Baker at keeper, senior Crystal Cook at forward and sophomore Rylee Graham at back, and, from Fort Fairfield, junior Courtney Churchill at midfield and senior Rose-Mary Williams at forward. Senior Kellie Peers from Limestone and Morgan Berube from Washburn were also nominated to the team at forward.  Within the Class B nominations, Mortland and Porter were nominated to the All New England boy’s and girl’s teams, respectively.
