100 Years Ago: December 24, 1908

• Miss Maud Lovely, assistant bookkeeper in Shaw and Mitton’s  grocery store left Tuesday for Masardis where she will spend her Christmas vacation with her parents.

• Potatoes are at $1.50 and $1.55 per barrel today.
• Miss Tessa Currier returned home recently from Waterville, where she has been attending business college. She will be spending her Christmas vacation at her home.
• Monday morning the mercury registered the lowest of the season

75 Years Ago: December 21, 1933

• Teachers of the high school gave Miss Rachel Hoyt a farewell dinner party at the Elite restaurant Monday Night. All females of the faculty were present. The party went to the movies after dinner.
• The peak of the cold snap occurred Friday morning when some who had the courage to look at the outside thermometer found that the mercury had dropped to 48 degrees below zero.
• Anna Phair, Olive Raymond, Erma and Thelma Gallagher of Limestone arrived home from Farmington Normal School to spend the holidays at their homes.

• A horse owned and driven by Wilson Corriveau of the Albair Road, became frightened Saturday evening near the store of J.A. Michaud. The animal reared and fell across the front of a truck of the National Confectionery Col, breaking off one of the lamps of the car. The post of the lamp entered a joint in the horse’s leg, causing an injury serious enough that the horse had to destroyed by veterinary surgeon, B.L. Pratt.
• Alex Tall, who attends Farmington Normal School is at home in Stockholm for the Christmas recess.

50 Years Ago: December 18, 1958

• Miss Mary Lou brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Brown and Miss Rae Harmon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Harmon are arriving home from Boston University for the holiday recess.
• Mrs. Anna Carlson of New Sweden, quietly observed her 84th birthday, Dec. 14, by having coffee with her children and their families.
• Sandra Johnson of Stockholm, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Johnson was chosen  St. Lucia Queen.
• Donald Dorsey, Jr., left Dec.1 for Bermuda where he is employed by a gas line company.
• Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hitchcock of Green Ridge have returned home after a two week trip to Nebraska.

25 Years Ago: December 21, 1983

• Line crews from Maine Public Service Company were assisted by the Houlton Water Co. and four crews from Bangor-Hydro and Electric Co., in restoring downed power lines, poles and conductors caused by the worst ice storm in more than 30 years.
• All systems are go for the start of Caribou’s new municipal ambulance service on Jan.1, 1984.
• Carla Thompson of Limestone, a junior at Colby College has again been distinguished as a Julius Seelye Bixler Scholar.  She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard C. Thompson.
• Thomas Blackstone, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Blackstone of Caribou has been named to the 1983 edition of  “Who’s Who Among Students in America’s Colleges and Universities.” Blackstone was named to this honor along with 35 other Albright college students.
• The Stockholm Fire Department was called Sat. To the home of Mr. and Mrs. Galen Forsman when fire was discovered in one wall of the house.The home was saved.
