PRESQUE ISLE – A shoebox filled with items that each and every one of us takes for granted: a new toothbrush, pens, pencils, paper, and maybe even a few toys or lollipops. Each year, Samaritan’s Purse sponsors Operation Christmas Child in an effort to provide for those in undeveloped countries who might not have these everyday items.  Since 1993, Samaritan’s Purse has collected over 61 million shoeboxes filled with these necessities of life and distributed them worldwide to those in need, so they, too, can have a joyful Christmas.
For the past two years, the Presque Isle High School Student Council has encouraged PIHS students to take part in the wonderful cause of Operation Christmas Child. With an outstanding response last year, Hannah Cheney, Student Council president, headed the effort this year.
There were a total of 13 boxes collected this year, and with this, the students and faculty of PIHS have shown their Christmas spirit by participating in the “Simple Gift of Giving.”
