Presque Isle – Lawrence E. James of Presque Isle, with his humor intact, passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on December 22, 2008. Lawrence was born in Presque Isle on March 31, 1923, to Cyrus and Hazel (Brown) James.
He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during WW II, was a potato farmer for many years and ended his working life as a carpenter.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Phyllis (Melville) James; daughters, Glenda Johnston and husband David, Gloria Ward, Gayle James and son, Jerry James and wife Carol; and a special daughter-in-law, Gail James. He truly enjoyed all of his nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters, Mildred Hayes and husband Richard, and Jean Brown and husband Bernard, and many nieces and nephews. Lawrence was predeceased by a son, Byron, a sister, Irene McLaughlin and a son-in-law, Charles Ward.
