Presque Isle – Star City Star Search, originally scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Presque Isle Middle School, has been cancelled due to a low number of participants. The project was to be a collaborative effort between the Presque Isle Sesquicentennial Celebration Committee and the Northern Maine Community College Foundation. NMCC and the NMCC Foundation were offered the opportunity by the Sesquicentennial Committee to host a staged production as a kick-off to the Star City Sesquicentennial Celebration.
“The College was very committed to working with the Sesquicentennial Committee on this project. It is unfortunate that we do not have enough contestants to move forward with this project at this time. However, we look forward to our upcoming collaborative projects to celebrate the city’s birthday,” said Jason Parent, NMCC director of development and college relations.
NMCC is still planning to host the city’s official “birthday party” on April 4, 2009 – the date 150 years ago that the city was incorporated. This event will be open to the public and will coincide with the start of National Community College Month, beginning a series of events planned for NMCC in April.
