The Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum was the dream of 10 local residents back in the early ‘90s. In 2001, this
group purchased the former Littleton Elementary School building on Route 1 in Littleton for $50,000. Through hardwork and volunteerism the museum organization has paid off the mortgage and built a 60 by 100 foot barn with donations and grants.
Major collections of antiques were received from Cedric and Emily Shaw and Luther and Kay Grass of Littleton. Since their initial donations, others have also given many items for display. Three classrooms have been transformed into a model potato house and an old farm house, while others are designated as; The Grass Tool Room and a dairy and automotive room.
Littleton’s one-room Ross School has also been moved to the museum property and refurbished.
The museum hosts school and group tours. Call 532-7125 for more information. Visit the museum Web site, www.oldplow.org.
