Kiwanis Club
The Easton Kiwanis Club met for their regular meeting on Feb. 2 at the Odd Fellows Hall, enjoying a pizza and salad supper. The meeting was opened by President Mike Allen asking for prayer by Esther Richardson, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.

As the first meeting of the month is supposed to be a Board meeting, and in the absence of the Board Chairman Barbara Blackstone and many other members of the Club, Allen held a very short meeting. Those there were reminded that it was time for dues to be paid. He also asked that Esther Richardson check up on the scholarship recipients of last year to see if they were still in higher education so that those scholarships can be paid; and he stated that the Charter for the Cub Scouts should be paid at this time. He also told the Club that they were getting a little low on finances.
He asked that Esther check on when and where the Winter Carnival will be held as the Kiwanis members are the usual hotdog grillers at this event. It was reported that there are 13 members in the Key Club and that going to the convention is still up in the air at this time. Mike asked if someone could get the names of the new Key Club officers for him. Membership Chairman Clair Carter reported no new members; the last new member was Mike Cyr, who supplies the food for the suppers at a minimal cost.
The president told the gathering that he had received an e-mail from Deirdre McMahon, this year’s Lt. Governor, reminding the club that a new Lt. Governor has to be picked before April. She stated that several Kiwanis Clubs should get together to discuss and vote on that new officer. She also included a letter from District Secretary Frank Dennett on the need to hold a caucus.
Those gathered sang “Happy Birthday” to member Bernie Hussey, who turned 89 that day. Bernie thanked the group who had also donated the paper products for his very successful benefit supper.
Those in attendance for the meeting were: Mike Allen, Loris Allen, Mike Cyr, Esther Richardson and Keith Richardson, Bernie Hussey, Eldora Carter and Clair Carter.

Hospitalized
Shiela Holmes was taken to the Eastern Maine Medical Center a week ago Wednesday where she underwent a serious heart surgery. She is doing fine and will probably be home by the time you read this or shortly afterward. We wish her a speedy recovery.
Robert Carter, formerly of Presque Isle, now of South Berwick, is still at the Boston Medical Center and will be there for some time. His daughter, Dianne Collins, picked up his companion, Lorna Plourde, and they drove down for a visit on Sunday.
There was a worrisome time during the Easton/Limestone basketball game on Monday evening, Feb. 2, when Sean Daniels was fouled and fell heavily to the floor while going for a lay-up, hitting his head, hurting his good arm and knocking the wind from him. After the game he was taken to The Aroostook Medical Center for examination, but thankfully, he had not broken his arm or caused any other serious injury, just bruises.

Valentine anniversaries
On Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day, Brent and Sandy Flewelling, Roger and Loraine Wilcox, and Kim and Greg Cumming, will celebrate their wedding anniversaries. We say, “Happy anniversary to them and many more.”

Moved
Nancy Wolverton Tracy has moved, this month, from her apartment at West Ridge Manor to an apartment in Leisure Gardens.
