Linneus — J.B. Shields took his team and a party of 18 young folks and went on a straw ride to Albert Mitchell’s camp in Hodgdon Friday evening Feb. 5. The ladies of the party furnished the refreshments in the form of cakes, pies and all nice things in the culinary line and the boys furnished a liberal supply of candy and nuts. Music was supplied by the graphophone and Jews harp and vocal music by the musical members of the party.
The grip — Our old enemy the grip is in town again and as a result the doctors are busy.

HHS — The Houlton High assembly program for Jan. 31 was presented by Room 7, under the direction of Miss Powers, with Frederick MacDonald acting as chairman. A delightful humorous reading was given by Marjorie Turner. Little Miss Charlotte Troy then did a soft shoe and a tap dance and Miss Isabelle Richards did a tap dance, both of which numbers were well received by the students. Miss Alberta Brown of Ricker Classical Institute pleased the audience with two very enjoyable vocal selections. Crete Lambert gave the current events.
Littleton — A number of neighbors and friends on the West Ridge Road enjoyed a straw ride into Beverly Shaw’s camp on Thursday evening, an oyster stew being served during the evening.
Oakfield — Two girls of the junior class in the Baptist Sunday School age ranging from 10 to 12 years gave a food sale on Saturday afternoon. These girls, Jackie Dwyer and Edith Wilmot did their own soliciting, gathered the food and displayed it in the window of Nettie Tidd’s Store, sold it and presented their pastor Rev. Roy S. Graffam, Sunday morning with $8.50, the amount they had earned themselves.

Charm School — Thirty freshmen and sophomore girls from Houlton High School will graduate Friday from Charm School that has been held for the past seven weeks at the Gentle Memorial Building under the direction of Mrs. Michael Regan. The primary objective of the school was to give the girls’ social self-confidence and poise, a much-needed addition to any girls’ make-up leaving the grade schools and entering the thresh-old of young woman-hood.
DAR Citizens — Six Southern Aroostook girls have been selected to receive the DAR Good Citizens Awards from Lydia Putnam Chapter in Houlton. They are: Beverly Hurd of Houlton, Nancy J. Good of Monticello for RCI, Lois D. Gaudette of Hodgdon, Gail Bradbury of Bridgewater, Maureen Brown of Oakfield and Ann Michaud of Island Falls.

Town Council — Three positions of the council and two of the Board of Directors of SAD 29 will be filled by Houlton voters. Expiring this year the terms of Councilmen, Eugene Graham, Ralph Ivey and Leland Ludwig, while terms of School Directors Fred Doescher and Jo Ann Dunphy are also expiring.
Learn Not to Burn — Local fire departments of Linneus, Haynesville, Wytopitlock, Littleton, Monticello, Oakfield and Houlton are coordinating a program called, “Learn Not to Burn,” sponsored by the Maine State Federation of Firefighters, Inc.
New Officers — Mrs. Lynn Sparrow, state president of the Maine Association of Hospital Auxiliaries installed new officers for the Houlton Regional Hospital Auxiliary. They are First vice-president, Gail Stewart; corresponding secretary, Patricia Niles; president, Virginia Urbanek; second vice-president, Rae Anne Larson; recording secretary, Carlene Romanelli; treasurer, Jean Collett and financial secretary, Iva Sussman.
Bear Badge — Den Two of the Cub Scouts — Jason Rochford, Ryan Wright, Jon Wright, Ben Cole, Anthony Cook, David Embleton, Stephen Carmichael and Joseph Sewell — are working on their badge. Nancy Wright is the leader.
