The Southern Aroostook Lady Warriors routed Ashland, 44-29 last Wednesday night in Dyer Brook.
The Lady Warriors led 14-11 at intermission and extended their lead to 25-16 after three en route to the win. Pacing SACS’ offense was Liz Goodall with nine points.
In boys’ action, Southern Aroostook escaped visiting Katahdin, 50-45 behind Dakota Sleeper’s 10-point third-period effort and his 6-for-6 free throw shooting in the fourth. Sleeper tallied a game-high 28 points. Tyler Robinson added 12, including going 3-for-3 from the line in the final period.
For Katahdin, Josh Guiggey netted 14 points and Brandon Robinson had nine.
The East Grand Lady Vikings pulled out a 54-50 win over Calvary Chapel in Danforth last Wednesday behind Courtney Lloyd’s double double, 22 points and 17 rebounds.
Kelsey Daoust threw in a game-high 24 points for East Grand, as the Lady Vikes took a 3-point halftime lead, 29-26 and maintained it over three, 40-36 to hang on for the win.
On the boys’ side, the Vikings were edged 58-55 by Calvary Chapel.
The Vikings held a 34-24 halftime lead but saw it dissolve in the second half, as the Sabers pulled to within three after the third, 43-40 before taking the lead in the fourth quarter.
Kaleb Dicker led a well-balanced scoring attack for East Grand, as he popped in 15 points; Seth Cropley netted 14; Abe Brittain tossed in 11 and grabbed 13 rebounds and David Cropley finished with 10 points and was big on the boards, ripping down a game-high 21 boards.
Last Tuesday, the Greater Houlton Christian Academy Lady Eagles topped East Grand, 58-26.
Kari Brewer led GHCA with 18 points, while Kasi Parker tossed in 10.
For East Grand, Daoust finished with 16.
On the boy’s side, GHCA toppled the Vikings, 72-54 behind Chad Duff’s 26 points.
The game was close until the Eagles outscored East Grand, 26-12 in the fourth. Zach Straubel added 20 points for the winners.
For East Grand, Dicker had 18 points, S. Cropley netted 13 and D. Cropley hauled down 18 rebounds.
Katahdin’s Evan McCarthy scored 11 of his game-high 30 points last Thursday against Ashland in the third quarter, as the Cougars outscored the Hornets, 27-10 for a 56-35 lead and held off a late Hornet run in the fourth for a 73-67 victory.
Brandon Robinson added 16 points and 15 rebounds in the win, while Lucas Craig and Ethan Qualey combined for 15 more Katahdin points.
Last Wednesday in Stacyville, the Katahdin Lady Cougars grabbed an 14-3 opening-quarter lead and never looked back picking up a 49-36 win over Hodgdon.
The Lady Cougars held a comfortable 39-23 third-period advantage on their way to their 10th win in 17 games.
Olivia McNally keyed Katahdin with 16 points, while Jalisa Moore tossed in 15 and grabbed 14 rebounds.
For Hodgdon, Brittany Davies and Chelsea Sloat posted 10 points apiece.
The Houlton Shiretowners didn’t have much success last Wednesday on the road against Caribou, falling 42-26.
The Vikings took an early 10-4 lead and spread it to 23-10 at intermission. After the third, the Vikings stayed in the lead, 31-16.
James Bates led Houlton with 11 points.
Last Tuesday, Houlton held an 18-17 halftime lead, but Caribou outscored the Lady Shires 21-6 midway through the third and into the fourth (9-for-12 from the free throw line) to take a 56-54 victory.
Vanessa Sanderson registered 20 points and Desiree Dow added 10.
The Lady Shires built a 24-13 halftime lead over Hodgdon last Friday en route to a 56-37 win.
Dow keyed the win with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Sanderson netted 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Lainey Herring chipped in with nine points.
For Hodgdon, Chelsea Sloat tallied 10 points.
The Hodgdon Hawks fell behind 18-8 at halftime last Tuesday against visiting Fort Fairfield and never recovered for a 47-23 loss.
Chris Williams registered nine points for the Hawks.
