In Caribou last week, both Viking teams ended their seasons early, after falling in their respective preliminary games.    For the Lady Vikings EM Class B prelim game at Thorndike last Tuesday, No. 5 Mt. View had little trouble, rolling past No. 12 Caribou 44-15. The Mustangs (16-3) advanced to play No. 4 Mount Desert Island (15-4) at 1:35 p.m. Saturday at the Bangor Auditorium..
In Caribou, the Viking boys took a final second 46-45 loss to Foxcroft Academy last Wedenesday, despite maintaining a slight lead during the first three quarters. Both teams were tied 12-12 at the end of the first but the Vikings stepped up their play before the half to lead 20-16 heading into the third quarter. As the teams struggled back and forth, Caribou still managed to stay ahead 33-31 before the fourth. But in the final seconds, Caribou choked at the basket, missing opportunities as Foxcroft pushed ahead. Empty from the three-point line, the Vikings were led by Sam Robertson with 18 game-high points and Cameron Anderson who put in 12, but those still weren’t enough to guarantee the Vikings a trip to Bangor.
The Limestone/MSSM Lady Eagles fell to Southern Aroostook 47-20 in their last game of the season Feb. 11. Limestone was unable to start out strong, and continued falling behind, down 17-10 at the half, while Southern Aroostook took advantage of the distance and leapt to a 25-point lead before the fourth quarter. For Limestone, Mallory Patten contributed eight points.
