To the editor:
We are still selling tickets on Cynthia Harvey’s handcrafted beautiful kitty queen-size quilt in shades of lavender to help the spay/neuter program expenses. The top is covered with little kittens in baskets and in playful moods. Each square is hand-stitched with a heart. This is a fantastic quilt. Tickets are $1 each or seven for $5. The quilt is on display and tickets available at The Lion’s Share Used Book Store on Herschel St., in Caribou until April 3rd. We will display it at the PI Forum Craft Fair on April 4 and 5. Draw date is May 1, 2009. The next pet food delivery for Caribou is planned for Tuesday, April 7 about 1 p.m. This program is meant to help people and their pets get through this rough winter. It was never meant to supply a family’s complete monthly pet food budget, merely to supplement and help. The friends of Madawaska Lake Homeless Cats and the Presque Isle Animal Hospital Caribou Clinic encourages anyone who is able help to purchase a few supplies and drop them off to the Herschel Street Clinic on Tuesday or Thursday afternoon. The food goes fast and people are very grateful for this help.
Like many helpful programs, there are always a very few people who spoil a great program for many other good families. Being set up on the honor system, it has been misused already with a very few people coming in several times and filling up their vehicles. Other people in great need did not get any supplies this month. Therefore, the pet food pantry will start to have limits set per family vs. need and supply available. It will only be open on Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. when I or a volunteer is available to hand out the supplies.
Please keep your cats inside and watch your dogs closely when they are outside. It is still winter and once the paws are hurting – dangerous situations can happen.
The wonderful people at 88 Bennett Drive Redemption are still collecting returnable bottles and cans to help with medical expenses. The bottle collection is very important to us. Please help when you are able. I do not always see the people who leave bottles at my home doorstep. I hope my neighbors realize how proud and grateful I am to them.
We provide each pet with Leukemia testing, all age appropriate shots, cleared of any parasites and spayed/neutered before adoption. We do socialization activities to assess the pet’s personality development for the most suitable adoption. Madawaska Lake Homeless Cats does not charge any fee for adoption.
Thank you for your continued faith and support in us. It means a lot and affirms our belief that these dear animals deserve quality health care and a promise of a loving home in their future. Our correct legal name is Halfway Home Pet Rescue dba Madawaska Lake Homeless Cats. When we move this next fall to be closer to human doctors and hospital facilities, we will be dropping the dba name. Thanks so much for all that you do to help the helpless stray animals of Aroostook County.
