Enjoying the seasons in Presque Isle

Presque Isle never seems to stop providing me with something to entertain myself no matter what the month or day gives me. I’ll start with winter. I love to go to the local snowboarding and skiing hill, Quoggy Jo, with all my friends. The people there are very nice and you have a great time. You get to go on all the jumps and rails with your friends, or just carve along the hill.

Since Presque Isle usually gets so much snow, it’s great to make the biggest and coolest snow forts and tunnels to play in. You can spend all day working on them. I think I speak for everybody when I say we enjoy the snow days; especially the kids.
Spring is also great, but it is not my favorite season. I can finally go outside without my ski pants and gloves, and drive our four wheelers to check out what winter has done to the landscape. The ground is always wet and muddy, so I really can’t bike yet. It’s really fun to go kayaking in the rough waters around Presque Isle with my dad. I really like seeing my entire driveway for the first time in a long while, and I can get around on my scooter and try more new tricks.
For me, summer and winter are a close battle for my favorite season. In summer I always go biking around town and jump off the small ledge of a building by the bowling alley. Mojo always has a pretty fun biking setup in their parking lot, as well. But no matter what, I always end up riding the downhill trails at Nordic Heritage Center as well as their terrain park with my friend Ridge or with a group of people. My family and I always go to Mantle Lake Park with family and friends on hot summer days. We ride our bikes and scooters around the circle.
Fall is a time of year where it’s always fun to jump in the leaves with your friends or family. I still try to get my biking in around town or at Mantle Lake, and kayak with my family until I am unable to. This is also a time close to basketball season, and on those rainy days where you just can’t get outside, my family, friends, and I will go to Gentile Hall and practice basketball in their great indoor gym. After that, we go upstairs and run the track. Sometimes we go to the weight room and maybe even climb the rock wall.
As you can see, Presque Isle has many wonderful places and activities to do throughout the seasons of the year. As long as I can remember, I’ve always loved Presque Isle. After all I’ve lived here my whole life.

PLEASURE MEETS WORK — During Christmas I went on a sled ride with my family to pick out a Christmas tree. While I was there, I thought it would be a good opportunity to take pictures for my photography class.

NATURE IN MOTION — This picture was taken with a shutter speed of 1/32 sec and an aperture of F/8 and an exposure time of 1/30 sec. This is a picture of Shin Pond Falls near Patten. This was taken in the fall of 2008.

DEPTH PERCEPTION — My assignment for this picture was to take a certain amount of pictures that had some type of framing in them. When I was experimenting with my camera, I took this picture because I saw it had potential to be an excellent depth of field photo. It turned out great!

FRAMING THE MOMENT — I took this picture at Riverside Park. This photo was for a framing assignment. I used the burn tool to darken the photo up a bit. The areas I focused on the most however were the two pieces of wood and the reflection of the other side of the river in the river. The reason I think using the burn tool worked so well was that it gave the wood an aged look and the reflection of the trees and sky in the water a deeper, serene type of peace.

FINE DETAIL — I took this picture for photography class. The assignment given was ‘point of focus.’ This was supposed to be a quick picture, but after starting to focus I saw how much detail was in the photo.

MORNING DEW — This photo is a brown leaf filled with water, almost puddle-like. This picture was taken at Rainbow Park in Westfield after the morning dew, during the late fall of 2008.

HOLIDAY FUN — This photo was taken around Christmas time, as an assignment that we call Photo Friday. I like this photo because of the way the black and white compliments the colors of the Christmas bulb. I also like this picture because my  father helped me make it, and I was excited on how great it turned out.

MAJESTIC FOREST — This picture was taken in Nekoosa, Wis. I took this picture because the trees in Wisconsin are so much different than the ones I’m used to in Northern Maine, and it was really nice outside. In Nekoosa the leaves stay on most of the trees in the middle of the winter, and most of the trees are really tall like the ones I took in the photo, at right.
