    Fort Fairfield and Presque Isle – Mary Ann Roach, 87, wife of the late Arnold J. Roach, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 24, 2009, at a Presque Isle healthcare facility, following a brief illness. She was born June 6, 1921 in Limestone Siding, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Frank and Julia (Cowett) McCarthy. Image
    Mary attended Grand Falls, N. B. schools and was married to Arnold J. Roach. She was a communicant of the St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield and a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Santa Maria Circle Number 427, Fort Fairfield. Mary had been employed as a nurse’s aid for nineteen years at the Community General Hospital, Fort Fairfield and was a resident of Presque Isle for over 25 years. Mary enjoyed gardening, knitting and spending time with her family and friends. She greatly cherished her time spent doing activities with the Daughters of Isabella, such as the St. Patrick’s Day Fair.
    In addition to her parents, Mrs. Roach was predeceased by her husband Arnold on August 20, 1994; one son, Winston A. Roach in 1970; six brothers, Robert, Myles, John, Leonard, Emery and Everett McCarthy; two sisters, Mildred McCarthy, and Myrtle Armstrong. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Barbara Roach of Grand Falls, N.B.; one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Robert Beaulieu of Mapleton; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews.
    Friends called Friday, March 27, 2009, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday, at 11 a.m. at the St. Denis Catholic Church, 143 Main Street, Fort Fairfield with the Rev. Aaron Damboise celebrant. Spring interment will take place at St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Number 1753, 260 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, immediately following the Funeral Mass. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mrs. Roach to the Daughters of Isabella, Santa Marie Circle Number 427, care of Mrs. Marion Cassidy, 63 Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield, 04742. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
