USING ROPES AND PULLEYS – East Grand Outdoor Education student Kaitlyn Beaudoin pulls a car uphill by herself as classmates look on. Beaudoin was able to do this with the use of ropes and pulleys known as a mechanical advantage. Students received training in canoe extraction in the event a canoe sinks, broaches and wraps around a rock or other obstacle. The river can have tremendous force with the current flowing into the submerged wrapped canoe and may require a similar setup with ropes and pulleys to extract it.
