Need a windshield fix?

    Scott White, owner of Aroostook Auto Glass on the corner of North and Washburn streets is working in one of his busier seasons right now; the after winter chipped windshield season.
    Although the recent winters have seen a change in the calcium-sand mixture application to slippery roads, there are still occasions when rocks fly and the windshield takes a hit.
    White suggests that if you have a chip to get it fixed before it results in cracking the entire windshield. Most insurance companies will cover the chip-fix approach, saving them and you money in the long run.
    Another accident waiting to happen is when individuals load their all-terrain vehicles on the back of their pick-ups. They often hit the back window resulting in a break. The next most common way to break the back window is loading the bed with firewood and a piece of wood is thrown with too much force.

ASSESSING DAMAGE — Scott White, owner of Aroostook Auto Glass takes a look at the windshield of Doug Fitzpatrick’s truck to assess the damage, repair it or replace it and get the truck back on the road.
    White said, “Every day is a new day. It may be quiet the first thing in the morning and by noon I am booked for the week.”
    White keeps a good inventory of replacement glass to ensure a quick turnaround for your vehicle.  Depending on the job, it takes anywhere from 45 minutes to a couple of hours. Each job is different. White averages three to five jobs a day.
    Another important item to remember is purchasing good quality windshield wipers. Scott recommends wipers that are made with metal trim rather than with the plastic ends. They also need to have metal rivets. If your wipers are noisy it is time for a replacement. Many windshield wipers are damaged from icy windshields during the winter months.
    White said that he services customers from Danforth to Patten with some clients coming from Bangor south. He explained that many students or former residents plan their visit to Houlton and have their glass replaced because they know and trust his company.
