A special election will be held Tuesday, April 28, at the Caribou Wellness Center. This election will result in the naming of the school board members who will make up the new Region School Unit Board of Directors which includes Caribou, Limestone and Stockholm schools. Caribou voting polls will open at 8 a.m. This voting process will seat four members from Caribou, two from Limestone and one from Stockholm, on the new school board, created as a result of regional school consolidation which will come into effect July 1.
As in any election, individual elections will be held, determining which citizen(s) will represent their respective communities on the newly formed consolidated educational system.
Candidates for one of the four available positions on the Regional School Unit Board of Directors from Caribou include: Katherine Anderson, Kent J. Forbes, Dale J. Gordon, Nancy Todd and Scott M. Willey.
Of the four Caribou candidates all but Todd are members of the current Caribou School Board of Education.
In Limestone, elections will be held April 28 at the Limestone Municipal building from 2 — 8 p.m.
Candidates seeking to represent Limestone on the new board are: Michelle Albert, George Obar, III, James A. Pelkey Jr., and Leslie A. Pelletier. Voters will elect two candidates.
Stockholm’s candidate is David Strainge. Voting in Stockholm will take place at the Stockholm Town Office, April 28, from noon to 6 p.m.
Terms of each elected director is to be staggered based on drawing lots pursuant to Title 20-A, section 1472-B.
The number of director seats available for representation from each school involved in the recently form RSU is determined by student enrollment.
