The Houlton tennis teams began their season last week with matches against Caribou and Madawaska.

On Monday, the Houlton boys defeated Caribou, 3-2, as Zach Harvey defeated Nick Willey, 8-0 in singles action. Lowell Matthews and Elliot Mooers of Houlton topped Phil Smith/Ezra Duplissie, 9-7 and the Delano brothers, Dustin and Tyler, partnered to defeat Matt Corty/Jerry Belanger, 8-1 in doubles action.
The girls lost to Caribou, 5-0.
Last Thursday, the Houlton boys fell to Madawaska in a doubleheader, 4-1, 4-1. The only Houlton win in each match came in doubles action with Dustin Delano and Lucas Anderson getting a 9-8, 7-3 victory and an 8-1 victory over Jamie Cyr/Adam Lavertu.
In girl’s action, the Lady Shires lost 5-0 and 4-1 to the Owls. The only Houlton win was Sarah Gentle and her partner Daisy Torres picking up a 9-7 victory over Jenna Parent/Noel Hanson.
