The Caribou Parks and Recreation Foundation will kick off its first annual campaign this month. The foundation was developed in 2007 as a 501( c )(3) charitable foundation. The mission of this charitable foundation is to serve the greater Caribou community through the development and presentation of recreational programs and facilities which target all age levels with a common goal of health improvement and life enrichment.

Members of the Caribou Parks and Recreation Foundation met recently to discuss the final plans for their first annual campaign drive slated to start this month. From left are: John Swanberg, president; Karen Nadeau, treasurer; Patrick Bennett, member at large; Steven Buck, ex- officio; Brent Jepson, member at large; Susan White, ex-officio and Cheri Doak, secretary. Absent from the photo is William Schofield, member at large.
Board of Directors President John Swanberg notes that although the original intent of the foundation was to provide funding options for donors who were supporting the Wellness and Recreation Center, the actual Foundation Board of Directors saw the value in establishing a long-standing charitable foundation to perpetuate the rich history of public recreation Caribou has had.
Swanberg also commented that the intent of the foundation is not to supplement monies already appropriated for programming or normal operations but rather to facilitate funding for future projects or to enhance existing programs.
Donors who wish to participate in the annual campaign may designate where they would like their contributions to be used. They can choose from program development, special projects, park improvements, facilities development or designate a special project they would like to support.
Superintendent of Parks and Recreation, Kathy Mazzuchelli said that she is particularly pleased with the development of the Parks and Recreation Foundation as it offers the opportunity for area residents to support their leisure pursuits and ensure that they will be available to future generations.
