To the editor:
The Woodland School Board would like to thank the students, parents, PTA members, the community of Woodland and most especially the staff and teachers of the Woodland School for another successful school year. This year has been a challenge for our small community, given the overall state budget cuts and the school consolidation bill. As a community, we have pulled together as always. We are writing to update on the status of this year and the budget for the new school year, 2009-10. We have made a few cuts, necessary due to decrease in state funding and declining school enrollment. We wish to convey that we are not closing the Woodland School or enacting any major changes. It is our expectation the Woodland School will continue to operate as it has for many years. We end this year in good financial standing.
We would also like to update on the library grant received this year. The school continues to add books, equipment and state-of-the-art technology. This grant is specific to the growth of our library and cannot be used for any other school expenses. This is a wonderful opportunity for our school, students and our community. We thank all those involved in this endeavor.
On another exciting note, the Woodland PTA has worked extremely hard this year and secured another grant for $50,000 to update/build a new playground. We want to acknowledge and thank the PTA for their tireless efforts on this project. Kudos to the PTA!
We are pleased the school year is ending on this exciting and productive note.
