AUGUSTA – Albert B. Walton, 82, died Monday, June 15, 2009, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta surrounded by his family. He was born in Hallowell on April 24, 1927, the son of Lucius and Ethel (Thompson) Walton.
Albert attended Gardiner High School. In 1942, he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in Texas. Albert served two years in the Phillipines. He received an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1946. He then went to work at Gardiner Shoe.
In February 1947, he met the love of his life, Florence Blaisdell. They were married on Nov. 20, 1947. In 1950, Albert went to work at Bath Iron Works. He worked there for 38 years before he retired. In 1990, he went to work for the Augusta Civic Center, where he worked for 15 years.
He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, John Walton; and a sister, Belle Campbell. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Florence Walton, of Randolph; a daughter, Anita Levesque and her husband, Rudy, of Linneus; four sons, James Walton I and his wife, Grace, of Pittston, John Walton, of Augusta, Albert Walton and his wife, Debra, of Prentiss, and William Walton, of Oakland; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and cousins.
A celebration of his life took place at 2 p.m. June 23 at the Gardiner Elks Lodge. Arrangements were in the care of Direct Cremation of Maine in Belfast. Burial will take place at a later date at Grove Cemetery in Belfast.
