Critic of deployed Guardsman has warped priorities

To the editor:
I was appalled when I read “to the editor” July 1 issue “Just say thank you” to our soldiers. I would like to thank Angela Farley for defending our troops while they defend this countries’ freedom, including the “mystery man” referred to in the article from Washburn, who refers to our troops who risk their lives for us as “playing war”. How dare you!

My guess is you failed history in school, because if you didn’t, you would know that American freedom is based on all the men and women in uniform that “played war” for centuries. Have you never heard “all gave some, some gave all”? Our troops deserve nothing less then our support!
Has this man ever been to a funeral of a young soldier? Believe me, there is never a mention of him/her “playing war” at the funeral or after. Do you realize that every single thing you do every day is because of our troops? A simple purchase at a grocery store is an act of freedom! And you, mister, don’t believe the computer tech at the school should be employed because he is in another country defending our freedom by risking his life? Perhaps you shouldn’t be employed because of your warped sense of values. You have no right detailing any soldiers “priorities”. You believe the computer tech’s “priorities” should be with the schools and not “voluntarily” sign up to go overseas. Unbelieveable!
I commend that young man and I thank him for his service to our country. Do you really believe the men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan “want” to be there risking their lives? Your “priorities”, mister, are the ones that need rearranging, not our soldiers.
You are a disgrace to the people and I am very glad I do not know you, but I do know what you are! This is July 4th. Perhaps you should read the “Declaration of Independence”.
By the way, mister, the front page of the Aroostook Republican, July 1 issue, displays a picture of a soldier, my son, my soldier! When you selfishly attack one soldier, you attack them all! And you have no right to do so, oh wait, you do have right, thanks to our soldiers, but that is one right you should think twice about exercising. Believe me when I tell you my son is not “playing war” and he, as well as all troops, deserve to come home, being welcomed with open arms to a community that displays respect and return to the job he/she left behind because duty called! Shame on you for not giving them the respect they deserve.
My son, my soldier, will be deployed to Afghanistan for a minimum of six months. Knowing he will fight for people like you, mister, saddens me. My son, AIC McBreairty, requested that I inform you that you would speak those words differently if you were ever in the military. I would advise you, mister, to keep your ignorant opinions about our soldiers to yourself. Their “family” is far bigger than you’ll ever be.
Again, thank you, Angela Farley, for defending our troops. God Bless our troops!
