Image    Woodworth, Hazel A., 86, Caribou; in Caribou, July 27, 2009. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2009 at the Lancaster-Morgan Funeral Home, Caribou. Friends may call from 12 noon until time of service. Interment will take place following the service at Evergreen Cemetery in Caribou. Arrangements in care of Lancaster-Morgan Funeral Home.

 

    CARIBOU – Hazel A. Sponberg Woodworth, 86, passed away Monday, July 27, 2009, at a Caribou nursing home. She was born December 8, 1922, in Stickney, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Colby and Zelma (Curtis) Swimm. Hazel had a passion for cooking and became a well-known chef at many local restaurants such as Keddy’s, The Northeastland, The Prestile, and The Ponderosa.  After retiring from cooking, she managed apartments for Dalton Scovil for twenty years. She was a hard worker who would never turn down an opportunity to try something new. Hazel was also a member of the State Street Baptist Church. Her family was very important to her and she will be dearly missed by all of them.
    Hazel is survived by four children: Sharon Rideout, her husband and “Hazel’s favorite son-in-law” Harry of Hermon, Murray Sponberg of Presque Isle, Deryle Sponberg and his wife Vicki of Washburn, Dr. Michael Sponberg of Hatboro, PA. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and three brothers: Philip, Earl and Merle Swimm and two sisters: Marjorie Hitchcock and Elsie Smith. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two husbands: Ernest Sponberg and Robert Woodworth, an infant son, three brothers: James, Reuben, and Walter Swimm, four sisters: Beulah Giberson, Mary Hewitt, Elva Hathaway, Ruth Swimm, a daughter-in-law Kathy Sponberg, and a great-grandson Gregory Luke Sponberg.  
    Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2009, at the Lancaster-Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou with the Rev. Michael Shaw officiating.  Friends may call from 12 noon until time of service. Interment will take place following the service at Evergreen Cemetery in Caribou. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make donations to the Luke Sponberg Foundation (204 Pearl St. Franklin, TN 37064) or to the Hazel Woodworth Culinary Arts Scholarship (Box 293 Washburn, ME 04786) Arrangements in care of Lancaster-Morgan Funeral Home.
