CARIBOU and PORTAGE LAKE – Joseph “Mel” McPherson, 74, died unexpectedly July 26, 2009 at his Caribou residence. He was born in St. Francis, April 28, 1935, the oldest son of Hanford and Marguerite (Dubois) McPherson. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife Diane (Page) McPherson of Caribou; two sons, Melvin and wife Elaine of Mars Hill, Joseph and friend Meredith of Caribou; seven brothers, Bob of Easton, Merle of Presque Isle, Raymond and Peter, both of Connecticut, Roy of Windham, Neal of South Carolina, Herb of Portage Lake; three sisters, Doris Farnham of Massachusetts, Irene Bossie of Dixmont, and Linda Rand of Fort Fairfield; eight grandchildren and three great- grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Helen in 1986.
Relatives and friends may call at the Stimson-Ouellette Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St., Ashland, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. A graveside committal service will follow at the Portage Lake Municipal Cemetery with Pastor Nathan Gardiner officiating.
