WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, has announced that she has successfully secured $4.74 million for Maine programs in the FY 2010 Department of Labor and Health and Human Services, and Education spending bill. Included in this funding is $500,000 for the Local Area 1 Workforce Investment Board, in Caribou, for Aroostook and Washington counties. “This funding would be used in Aroostook and Washington counties to train new employees for existing vacancies, and allow incumbent workers to access further training to move up the career ladder. This funding would help address the critical shortages in health care professionals,” said Sen. Collins.
The FY 2010 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education spending bill was approved July 28, by the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, HHS, and Education. It must now be approved by the full Senate Appropriations Committee.
