Firefighter II/Paramedic Mike McCarthy is a 31-year member of the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department. “My father was a full-time firefighter  and I remember sitting next to my Dad’s radio when I was small, listening to it when there was a big fire, wishing I could go … I always wanted to be a firefighter.”     Firefighter Mike, 48, commented that being a firefighter requires, “Always being on-call, continuous training and the task of trying to stay in shape. Also, citizens should realize that it is very necessary to keep up with all the skill changes regarding the paramedic field as well as firefighting trainings. ”
A Woodland resident, firefighter Mike and his wife Susan have two children, Chad and Allyson. When he finds a spare bit of time, the longtime Caribou Fire Department firefighter enjoys snowmobiling, motorcycling, woodworking and camping.
Although he didn’t comment on his likes or dislikes in music, Firefighter Mike McCarthy stated his favorite foods include steak and pizza.
