Hunter Safety hands-on program to begin in September
    A Hands-On Hunter Safety program begins September 13 through September 27.
    Classes will be held from 1-4 p.m. on the following Sunday afternoons, Sept. 13, Sept. 20 and Sept. 27 at the Island Falls Fish and Game Club clubhouse at the Mattawamkeag Lake/ Boat landing.
    The Island Falls Fish and Game Club and the Island Falls Free Wheelers- ATV club are sponsoring the class.
    Instructor will be Peter Blood and the class is limited to 24 students. Students ages 10-14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The class is free. Preregistration is mandatory. Door prises will be given including Hal Blood’s DVD —”Hunting Whitetails in Maine.”

PIHS Invitational slated for Aug. 13 and 15
    The 17th annual PIHS Invitational Soccer Tournament will be held Thursday, Aug. 13 and Saturday, Aug. 15 at the Johnson Athletic Complex.
    Teams participating in this year’s event are Fort Kent, Ashland, Caribou, Madawaska, Houlton, Van Buren and Presque Isle. Round-robin games begin Thursday, Aug. 13 at 3 p.m. and run until 6:55 p.m. that day. The Saturday, Aug. 15 round-robin schedule is from 8:30 a.m. to 11:25 a.m. The top two girls teams will play in the championship beginning at 11:35 a.m. The top two boys teams square off at 12:15 p.m.
