Bridgewater Historical News
By Jann Bonkowski Votaw
Members of the Bridgewater Historical Association extend their thanks to all who participated in their Line Dance classes. Unfortunately, the instructor had to step down earlier than expected so classes had to be cancelled. We hope all had a good time. Remember you can practice your fancy footwork at the BHA hall on Thursday nights when they have live music.
The BHA meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first Monday of the month at the BHA hall on Main Street. New members are always welcome.

Ricker Rumblings

By Lois Downing
Good day to all my readers! Are you surviving the humidity well? Have three fans going, but I have been sleeping restfully and that is a big help. We are so grateful for the sunny days and in a few days we will have that cold and drifty white stuff— SNOW!!
The potato feast is over for another season. Looks like a good potato harvest and that is great for the farmers and everybody else. I might add that the raspberries were delicious, as well as the strawberries.
Three ladies were in the building the first of the week with blueberries. Blueberries are full of anti-oxidants plus a wonderful source of Vitamin C. I’ll eat mine plain, with cereal, ice cream, etc. Just brush your teeth well after eating!!
Speaking of black/blue — Florence Hanson fell in the parking lot the last day of the week, on her face I might add. Florence came to see my reaction — which was WHAT DID YOU DO?? If this happened during the Halloween season, Florence would not have to find a mask! She bruised her face and was black/blue over, under and around the eyes and cheeks. If you see Florence, you will know why she is wearing colored glasses!
Steve Hanson of California has been visiting his mother for several days and attending his class reunion.
Elinor Schenk has been at her cottage at the lake. We miss you, Elinor.
Kathryn Hall with Parker and Shannon Shaw of Bangor visited the writer, Lois Downing, for the weekend. Parker and Shannon both celebrated their birthdays recently, turning 8 and 7. They are Lois’ brother’s great-grandchildren and what a joy they are!
We appreciate the vegetables brought to Ricker for our use recently — green and yellow beans and cucumbers. Their taste is scrumptious and thank you very much.
The Ricker staff gave us a barbecue cookout on Friday but it turned out to be a FIRE DRILL.  It caused a little excitement and some of our appetites were whetted, but the end result was worth waiting for. The smoke from the grill set off the alarm and we had to leave the community room until everything was cleared. The hot dogs and hamburgers were worth the wait, plus we had salads, mixed and potato, and delicious cookies. Thanks, Charlene and Brian.
Marion Hogan is a patient at Houlton Regional Hospital. Marion fell in her apartment recently and we all say “hello” to her. You are missed.
How did you like the potato feast activities? A lady approached my daughter and I in the park and gave each of us a supply of Maine potatoes. Now wasn’t that nice? We sure appreciated this kindly gesture.
Ron Brownlow is a frequent visitor of his beloved Priscilla at her second floor apartment.
I was told that Russell Socoby has moved to Eastport. That’s a little town in Washington County on the coast I’ve been to many times. Hope Russell likes his new environment.
Here’s hoping the vendors and all those people involved in the potato feast deemed it a success, plus A for your efforts.
Just learned that Charlie and Jeannie Hall have moved to Massachusetts. Charlie and Jeannie lived next to my daughter on Carr Avenue several years ago and were good neighbors. Hello to Charlie and Jeannie!
See you next week but before I leave until then, here’s my Bible verse for the day from Isaiah 45:5A: “I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me.”
Keep well and be happy.
