The Presque Isle and Ashland girls soccer teams remain red-hot to start the season, improving to 5-0 and 6-0 respectively. Easton won three games in a four-day stretch to push its win total to eight on the season. The following is a recap of games played through Monday, Sept. 14.
Ashland 3, Washburn 0 — At Presque Isle Monday, Brooke LeBelle and Macie Pelkey each had a goal an assist for the Hornets in a win over Washburn. Whitney Donovan also scored a goal and Jessica Jimmo had an assist for Ashland (6-0).
Goalie Taylor Baker had two saves on two shots for Ashland, while Rayah Saucier had 20 saves on 30 shots for Washburn.
Fort Fairfield 4, Wisdom 0 — At Fort Fairfield Monday, Tiger Kelsie Wilson had two goals to lead Fort Fairfield (6-2-1) to victory over Wisdom (0-9). Lindsey Graves had a goal and an assist for the Tigers and Kylie Plourde added an insurance goal.
Tiger goalie Katy Donovan stopped two of four shots, while Suzie Collins had 13 saves on 26 shots for the Pioneers.
Presque Isle 4, Ellsworth 1— At Ellsworth Saturday, Kayla Richards, Shae Adler, Chandler Guerrette and Jenna Stephenson each had solo goals for the Wildcats (5-0). Richards, Chelsea Nickerson and Karlee Bernier each had assists.
Ellsworth’s Gabi Huebner scored for the Eagles in the second half, marking the first goal this season that Presque Isle has allowed.
The Wildcats out shot Ellsworth 23-10. Meredith Stewart and Kelsey Park shared goalie duties for Presque Isle, making six saves, while Morgan Jones and Jessica Toothaker shared the net for Ellsworth, making eight saves.
Southern Aroostook 3, Washburn 0— At Dyer Brook Friday, Rochelle Nadeau scored two goals and Liz Goodall added a solo shot to keep the Warriors of Southern Aroostook (6-0) undefeated on the season. Evangeline Goodall added an assist for SAHS.
Mallary Lawler and Emily Cummings shared goalie duties for the Warriors and stopped all three shots they faced. Saucier had six saves on 21 shots for Washburn (1-6-3).
Easton 8, Central Aroostook 1 — At Mars Hill Friday, Carla Halvorson scored a whopping seven goals to lead the Bears to victory over Central Aroostook. Meghan Frank added a solo goal for the Bears (8-4-1). Rachel Grew tallied the lone goal for Central Aroostook (3-6-1).
Taylor Burtt made three saves on seven shots for the Bears, while Nashalli Parks made four saves on 21 shots for the Panthers.
Easton 4, Washburn 0 — At Washburn last Wednesday, the Bears erupted for four second-half goals en route to the shutout victory over the host Beavers. Ariana Babineau led the way with two goals, while Halvorson and Sam Fuller both had a goal and an assist.
Burtt had 10 saves on 20 shots, while Washburn goalies Saucier and Rebecca Campbell combined for seven saves on 17 shots.
Presque Isle 2, Fort Kent 0— At Presque Isle last Wednesday, the Wildcats hosted the Warriors in a battle of undefeated teams. Both Presque Isle goals came in the second half. Stephenson scored an unassisted goal in the second half, while Nickerson added an insurance goal with 10:13 to play.
Park made four saves on five shots for Presque Isle, while Karissa Pelletier had 20 saves on 27 shots for Fort Kent.
“This was a really well-played game,” Presque Isle coach Ralph Michaud said. “Their defense is very tough and their goalie [Pelletier] made some excellent acrobatic saves.”
Ashland 2, Van Buren 0 — At Van Buren Tuesday, Sept. 8, Kayla Cote had a goal and an assist to lead the Hornets to victory over the Crusaders. Jessica Jimmo added an insurance goal in the second half for Ashland.
Baker had eight saves on 10 shots for the Hornets, while Ashlie Wilson stopped 20 of 26 shots for Van Buren.
Limestone-MSSM 2, Fort Fairfield 0 — At Limestone Tuesday, Sept. 8, Bethany Berry scored five minutes into the second half to break a scoreless tie for the Eagles. Leighton added an insurance goal six minutes later. Cote and Karen Page both had one assist.
Kirk stopped all 20 shots she faced for the Eagles, while Donovan had 20 saves on 25 shots for the Tigers.
Easton 10, East Grand 1 — At Easton Tuesday, Sept. 8, the Bears exploded for 10 goals in a romp over East Grand of Danforth. Halvorson accounted for half of the Bears’ offense as she booted in five goals and added an assist.
Babineau added two goals and two assists in the win, while Fuller chipped in with two goals and Brooke Hammond added one. Meghan Frank had three assists and Kennedy Young added two.
