To the editor:
Maine people are being misinformed, perhaps even intentionally, by federal and international authorities about the current level of virulence of the H1N1 “Swine” flu virus. What’s more, many health professionals have determined they will not take the vaccine both because it has never been thoroughly tested and because of potentially deadly side effects. Maine people are also intentionally or unintentionally being led to believe by some that children are required to take the vaccine for H1N1 at school. Current Maine law exempts any children whose parents express in writing to the school their religious or philosophical objections to the vaccine. Furthermore, many health professionals and journalists around the world fear that the entire H1N1 “pandemic” scare is being overblown for possible nefarious reasons. Fortunately, the Aroostook County Republican Committee passed unanimously a resolution urging our county’s elected law enforcement officer and his staff not to permit forced vaccinations under any guise within our county’s borders.
In addition, Rep. Doug Thomas (R-Ripley) recently introduced an emergency bill before the legislative council for introduction in the upcoming session of the Maine Legislature which would exempt Maine from any mandatory vaccination declaration or enforcement actions by federal or international authorities. Despite federal DHS Secretary Kathleen Sibelius’s “word” that the H1N1 vaccination will be voluntary, reports abound — including direct reports from active duty military personnel — that training for roadblock enforcement, forced quarantine, and detention of vaccine “resisters” is under way. This is a huge red flag that things are not right. Who are these people with crystal balls? Does somebody know that the virus is about to “mutate?”
The Tenth Amendment allows the several states to say “no” to an over-reaching federal government. Doug Thomas’s efforts are to be applauded and supported. Please contact the 10 members of Maine’s legislative council (google: “Maine” and “Legislative Council”) and tell them to allow this bill to be considered by our elected representatives in January.
