Caribou teams split

    Caribou girls 3, Ellsworth 0 — At Caribou Saturday, Caribou had little trouble blanking visiting Ellsworth (3-5). The Vikings improved to 6-2 on the season thanks to solo goals from Jamie Martin, Olivia Sleeper and Morgan Swan. Jenna Selander notched a pair of assists in the win.     Brittany Doak had seven saves on 10 shots for Caribou. Jessica Toothaker had four saves on 14 shots for Ellsworth.
    “The girls are playing well as a team, and that is key for playing good offense and defense,” Caribou coach Todd Albert said.
    Ellsworth boys 4, Caribou 0 – At Caribou Saturday, the Eagles were dominant as the Vikings were playing their game without McDuffie, who suffered an injury against Madawaska on Sept. 17 which was diagnosed as a broken bone in his foot.
    “We made some adjustments to account for his absence, but it wasn’t enough,” said Caribou coach Mark Shea.
    The Eagles scored all four of their goals in the first half, including two by Matt Duhaime, as the visitors moved to 8-0-1.
    “We made further adjustments in the second half, putting people in new positions, and we played much better,” said Shea, noting his team held Ellsworth off the scoreboard for the final 40 minutes.
    Garrett Jordan saved eight of 16 shots in goal for Caribou, which was able to get off just six shots against Ellsworth keeper Jordan Carter.
