Lady Warriors 11-0: Possible repeat title?

    The Southern Aroostook Lady Warriors are holding an undefeated record of 11-0 with wins over Katahdin and Ashland last week. The Lady Warriors are on track for a possible repeat state title this season.
    Katahdin 0, Ashland 3 — The Hornets are chasing the Lady Warriors in Class D, taking their record on Monday to 8-2 with their shutout over Katahdin in Presque Isle.
    The Lady Warriors are seeded first in Class D, followed by Easton and then Ashland.
    Ashland goalie Taylor Baker preserved the shutout by blocking one of two shots, while Katahdin keeper Makayla Patterson rejected 15 of 23 shots.
    Houlton 4, Lee Academy 0 — Martha McPartland and Vanessa Sanderson put Houlton on top 2-0 in the first half of last Saturday’s game in Lee, and Abby Kinens’ two goals in the second half provided the winning margin in Houlton’s shutout victory. Amanda Fogarty grabbed three assists, while goalkeeper Madison Lezotte preserved the shutout by blocking all five shots.
    For Schenck, goalie Felicia Thornton made five saves on 12 shots.
    Southern Aroostook 1, Katahdin 0 — Southern Aroostook coach Holly Vining never underestimates Katahdin, and last Friday, she knew it would be a tough game to win.
    The game was scoreless through the first half, as Katahdin anchored a defensive scheme, which worked in the first half before Janel Rockwell finally broke through, sending the ball from outside to the back corner of the net with 21:47 left in the contest.
    Southern Aroostook goalie Emily Cummings had two saves on three shots, while Katahdin’s Patterson stopped 13 of 15 shots faced.

A NEAR GOAL – A Southern Aroostook player nearly has herself a goal, but Katahdin freshman keeper Makayla Patterson comes out to scoop up the ball, as she is supported by her teammate in the background. The Lady Warriors earned a 1-0 win over Katahdin and remain undefeated on the season at 11-0.
    Southern Aroostook 2, Ashland 0 – Southern Aroostook’s Evangeline Goodall broke a scoreless tie by scoring on a Rockwell cross 19 seconds into the second half of last Wednesday’s game in Dyer Brook. Goodall and Rockwell teamed up for the insurance goal 12 minutes later.
    SACS goalie Cummings stopped four of nine shots, while Baker made eight saves on 10 shots.
    Hodgdon 6, East Grand 1 — Hodgdon’s Lacey McQuarrie had an outstanding game against host East Grand, as she tallied four goals and added an assist, as Hodgdon rolled to the win. Britta Oliver added a goal and an assist and Taylor McGary scored for the Lady Hawks. Goalie Marissa Malone turned away seven of nine shots.
    For East Grand, Sharlene Maynard scored a second-half goal and keeper Kim Armstrong saved 18 of 25 shots.
    Houlton 2, Schenck 1 (OT) — Houlton’s Kinens provided the winning tally unassisted with 3:08 left in overtime last Tuesday in East Millinocket.
    Schenck took the lead just three minutes into the second half before Sanderson knotted the game with 11:19 left.
    Houlton keeper Lezotte had 17 saves on 19 shots and Leann Toothaker 22 on 27.

    The Houlton Shiretowners are sitting in the No. 6 position of Class C with a 6-0-2 record, and picked up two wins last week, while the Southern Aroostook Warriors are the fourth seed in Class D with an 8-2 record, taking a split on the week.
    Ashland 6, Katahdin 1 — After winning the state title a year ago, coach Matt Lindsay’s Cougars continue to struggle, with only two wins on the season. On Monday, the Cougars were blasted by Ashland, as the Hornets’ Casey Cobb scored three times and added an assist and teammate Kenny Tarr scored twice and had two assists as Ashland improves to 7-3.
    The Hornets held a 19-17 shooting advantage in the game. Katahdin’s Jesse McNally turned back 11 shots, while Ashland’s Bobby Gardner stopped 12.
    Houlton 2, Lee Academy 1 — It was a close game on Saturday in Lee, as the score was tied 1-all and looking as if another possible overtime game was in store for the Shires. With 22 seconds left, Cody Briggs netted a goal to lift the Shires to victory. Garry Fowler had scored Houlton’s first goal unassisted.
    Combining in goal, Jared Tapley and Lucas Anderson blocked eight of 18 shots. For Lee, netkeeper A.J. Harris had 12 saves on 24 shot attempts.
    Southern Aroostook 6, Katahdin 0 — It was a long day for the Cougars when they matched up against Southern Aroostook last Friday in Dyer Brook. Patrick Goodall scored twice to spearhead the Warriors’ harassment of the Cougars’ defense. David Dubois, Dakota Sleeper, Nick Tarr and Anthony Diaferio all scored for the Warriors. Dubois also added two assists, with Jake Lassonde and Cody Robinson adding single assists.    
    The Warriors outshot Katahdin 24-2, as SACS goalie Jesse Boulier made one save and Katahdin’s McNally set aside 16 shots.

    East Grand 1, Woodland 4 — The Vikings’ Logan Crone scored in last Thursday’s game in Danforth on a Mitchell Bartlett set up, but it wasn’t enough, as the Dragons went on to victory.
    The Brittains, Abe and Alex, teamed up in goal for eight saves on 14 shots, while Woodland’s Ryan Lincoln had seven saves on nine shots.
    Southern Aroostook 1, Ashland 2 — The Warriors staked a 1-0 lead in the first half behind Diaferio’s goal during last Wednesday’s game against Ashland in Dyer Brook. But, Ashland came back in a hurry to take the win on back-to-back goals by Tarr, who tied the game 1-all 13 minutes into the second half, and three minutes later Cobb the game-winner.
    The Warriors’ goalie Boulier had five saves on eight shots, while Gardner blocked seven of 12 shot attempts.
    Hodgdon 0, East Grand 0 (2 OT) — It was a deadlocked game last week in Danforth between the Hawks and Vikings. Hodgdon keeper Erik Ryan rejected all 13 shots he faced, while Viking Abe Brittain set aside 21 of 24 shots.
    Houlton 2, Schenck 0 — The Shires picked up a 2-0 win behind Fowler’s effort, as Jimmy Fitzpatrick chipped in with an assist.
    The Shires held a 13-2 shooting advantage, with Tapley stopping one shot and Schenck’s Ryan Thompson turning back 10 attempts in last Tuesday’s game in East Millinocket.
