Trouble in Island Falls has affected other towns

To the editor:
    This is a letter of apology that I feel I owe the people of Oakfield. When I stood up during the town meeting and made a motion to accept Island Falls ambulance’s bid, little did I know that the so-called town fathers of Island Falls would allow such a top-notched ambulance service to be ruined. This in turn has put several small towns like ours between a rock and a hard spot.
    Being an outsider looking in, I feel the town of Island Falls needs just exactly what every other form of government we have needs now. That would be to eliminate the top 80 percent and fire the remaining 20 percent and start over, making it first and foremost that you have to have common sense and no agenda except what the majority of the taxpayers want before you can be elected.
    So, to all residents of Oakfield, I apologize whole heartedly for making that motion. But, I still think it would have been best for all of us had it been handled correctly. After all, if you have one bad apple, do you remove it, or do as Island Falls has done, and cut the whole tree down?
