On Saturday, Oct. 24, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., the Nylander Museum in Caribou, will be hosting a family reunion honoring Olof Nylander and his descendants. This event is open to the public. “We have invited four generations of direct-line descendants of Olof’s daughter, Eldina Nylander Ketch,” announced Jeanie McGowan, director at the museum. “The Nylander family has contributed to the museum and to the community over the years, all which has been greatly appreciated, said McGowan, “this event is a wonderful opportunity for people to come and meet this remarkable family. The grandchildren have some wonderful stories which you won’t want to miss.”
During the Nylander family reunion and museum seasonal party, there will be special museum exhibits and some vintage photography on display.
Refreshments with special Swedish treats will be provided. Children are welcome.
The afternoon event will be professionally videoed.
The Nylander Museum, located on South Main St., is dedicated to the work of Olof Nylander and the natural history of the Northeast. On display are fossils, rocks and minerals, mounted regional animals, freshwater/marine shells, Nylander archives, and Paleo-Indian archaeology. These are valuable resources for educational tours for scouts, students, and anyone who has an interest in this wonderful history.
“We are very fortunate to have this museum in Caribou,” McGowan said.
Summer hours at the Nylander Museum will conclude on Oct 31. Winter hours from Nov. 1 through April 30, are Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. McGowan also said that scheduled tours and groups by appointment are available only on Tuesday and Thursdays.
The Nylander Museum is closed holidays.
