CARIBOU —In 1981, the record for the daily maximum snowfall was 1.3 inches in Caribou. On Friday, that record was blown out of the water when a storm rolled through the area depositing heavy, wet snow. According to Warning Coordination Meteorologist Mike Cantin of the National Weather Service office in Caribou, 6.1 inches of snow was recorded on Friday, Oct. 23.
The storm started on Thursday afternoon and had motorists slipping and sliding their way home from work.
According to Sgt. Curtis of the Caribou Police Department, there were eight accidents reported on Oct. 22 and the weather was culprit.
Aside from the random pocket of snow here and there, the area should be free of snow for at least a week according to Cantin. While snow fell heavy and early this year, it is still looking to be an average winter.
