PRESQUE ISLE — A 2008 University of Maine at Presque Isle graduate, Thomas Wire, recently made international headlines for a study completed this summer which concluded that spending money on family planning was a cost-effective approach to reducing carbon emissions. He will offer a talk, “Fewer Emitters, Lower Emissions, Less Cost,” about his findings on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 3:30 p.m. in Folsom Hall Room 203 on the UMPI campus. Wire completed the study — which was commissioned by the Optimum Population Trust, a UK think tank concerned with the impact of population on the environment — in 2009 as a postgraduate student at the London School of Economics.
Wire is scheduled to present his findings on Nov. 19 as a panelist at a family planning practicum in Uganda. For further information, please contact Dr. Shawn Robinson at 768-9724.
