BLUEMOON ARTIST — Rebecca Hickman is the featured artist at the Blue Moon Gallery from now through Saturday, December 5. She will give a special presentation of her artwork on Saturday, Nov.14 at 1 p.m. and demonstrate her technique. The presentation is free and open to the public. The gallery is located within Visions at 66 Main Street in Houlton. Hickman’s art focuses on spirituality and symbolism. She is shown above with a piece entitled, “All Are One.”

She attributes her art teacher, Bonnie Tidd with seeing an artistic side of her and introduced her to the works of John Waterhouse, a world famous artist from the late 1800s who is noted for art representing mythology, poetry and mystique femme fatale.
Receiving her art degree from the University of Maine this year, she is now enrolled in a graduate program with a focus on rehabilitation counseling through the University of Southern Maine.
Guests viewing her several pieces of art at the reception were in awe of the fine detail of each one. Hickman’s intricate work is created by using a variety of pens with different widths of points. Most of Hickman’s art is heavily influenced by spirituality and symbolism.
“During college,” said Hickman, “every time I had readings to do for English, I found myself interpreting the readings by creating a drawing.”
Hickman’s parents, Howard and Linda’s favorite is, “All Are One”. They too marvel at her talent.
“Everything in it has a different meaning,” said Linda Hickman.
On Saturday, Nov. 14, Hickman will host a special presentation at Visions for the public. She will talk about her art and demonstrate her technique. The program begins at 1 p.m.
Call Barbara Sutton, executive director of the Southern Aroostook Cultural Arts Project for more information at 532-9119. The gallery located at 66 Main Street is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on Saturdays, 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
