CARIBOU – The former deputy chief of the Island Falls Fire Department charged with misappropriation of nearly $10,000 in town money was one of 55 individuals indicted by the Aroostook County grand jury this past week.
The grand jury completed its two-day November 2009 session returning a total 56 indictments.
Paul A. Breton II, 27, of Island Falls was arrested back in July on a count of Class B theft. If convicted, Breton could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.
Breton had served as the assistant fire chief in Island Falls for two years and also was also a paramedic with the town’s ambulance department. He resigned in July.
Jeffrey A. Webb, 32, of Houlton was indicted on charges of aggravated criminal trespass, aggravated assault, criminal mischief and driving to endanger.
Webb was arrested in his residence by the Houlton Police Department after a report of a fight at a High Street residence. When officers arrived at the High Street residence they were told that Webb had forced his way into the home of his 32-year-old former girlfriend. Once inside, he allegedly began assaulting a 34-year-old Houlton man.
When the victim tried to leave, Webb allegedly rammed the rear of the victim’s truck. Webb left his vehicle and reportedly sliced the rear tire of the victim’s truck with a utility knife. The victim exited his truck and another altercation occurred, police said. Webb then allegedly sliced the victim in the abdomen with the knife. The victim suffered a cut three inches long.
The victim was treated at a local hospital and later released.
If convicted of elevated aggravated assault, Webb could face up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000. Both aggravated criminal mischief and aggravated criminal trespass are Class C felonies punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.
