The Easton Kiwanas Club held a supper and reception on Oct. 23, at the Odd Fellow’s Hall to entertain District 1 Kiwanis Club Governor, David Koohy, of Rhode Island. Koohy is the governor of all of the New England states and Bermuda, and had never been this far north before.
After supper, Koohy spoke to the group of Kiwanians from Caribou, Presque Isle and Easton, and he praised them for all that they do in this area. He then presented pins to the presidents of each club: Charles (Chuck) Clukey, of Presque Isle, James Murphy, of Caribou and Mike Allen from the Easton club. He also presented a pin to the new Lt. Governor for this area, Barb Blackstone, of Easton.
Thirty one people were present to enjoy supper and the fellowship from all the Kiwanis Clubs in the area.
Easton Kiwanis hold meeting
The Easton Kiwanis Club held their regular meeting Nov. 3, with 10 members present. After a great potluck supper President Mike Allen opened the meeting with the salute to the flag and a prayer was given by newly elected Lt. Governor, Barbara Blackstone.
The meeting was short and sweet with discussion on the upcoming benefit supper for Monica Cilley and family, on Saturday, Nov. 14th, at the Odd Fellow’s Hall from 4-7 p.m. The Easton Jr./Sr. High School Key Club and Honor Society will help serve the spaghetti supper. Prices will be $7 per person and $20 per family. Donations and anything brought for the auction will be greatly appreciated.
Plans were discussed for the regular Christmas Party and the Christmas Baskets on Dec. 1. It was decided that instead of a Yankee Swap this year that members should bring a gift for children for the Christmas baskets. It was also mentioned that the tween and teen group do not seem to get the same level of donations that the little ones do and it was suggested that we remember them, too. Members are encouraged to bring a guest.

Old schoolhouse
We were all sorry to see the old schoolhouse on Center Rd. go up in flames. Joe and Polly we are sorry for your loss. It sure looks strange and sad to look across the road from our house and not see the school there. I have a lot of memories there as I’m sure many people do. It’s always sad to lose a landmark.
I would like to praise the Easton Fire Department for their great job of controlling the fire. They were at the scene very quickly, too. Good job guys … Oh whoops, I think there’s a girl on the fire department, too. Sorry.
Harvest Party a huge success
The Easton Harvest Party was a great success as I was told. There was a great turnout and everything went great. This year Pastor Vaughn Martin from the Wesleyan Church set up games and things and they had trunk-or-treat also. That is where the cars line up and have candy in their trunks and pass it out to the kids. An easy way to go trick-or-treating.
A big “thank you” to all who did so much work in putting on this great party … it is wonderful.
