PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – A two-car accident Wednesday, Nov. 3, was reportedly caused by one driver’s failure to stop at a stop sign.
The Presque Isle Police Department received a call reporting the accident at about 4:56 p.m. at the intersection of Cedar and Dudley streets. “Hugo Olore, 86, of Presque Isle, was eastbound on Cedar St. in his 2006 Honda, approaching the Dudley St. intersection. Caitlan Ballard, 18, of Milo, was northbound in a 2005 Chevy on Dudley. Ms. Ballard failed to stop at the stop sign and drove into the intersection, into the pathway of Mr. Olore,” said Brian McQuarrie, investigating officer, PIPD. McQuarrie said Olore was unable to avoid Ballard’s vehicle and the two vehicles collided.
Olore was traveling alone. Ballard had a passenger in her vehicle at the time of the accident.
“A passenger in the Ballard vehicle, Italia Corriveau, of Presque Isle, sustained injuries to her face and was taken by Crown Ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center for treatment. Ms. Ballard sustained injuries to her left side and was later taken to TAMC by private vehicle to be checked out and treated for her injuries,” said McQuarrie.
Olore also sustained an injury to his left hand, said McQuarrie, but at the time did not seek treatment.
“All were wearing seatbelts and the airbags did deploy,” McQuarrie said.
Estimated damage to the Olore vehicle was $2,400. It was towed from the scene by Jerry’s Towing Service, of Presque Isle. Ballard’s automobile sustained an estimated $3,400 in damage. Cowett’s was called to tow her car.
Also assisting at the scene was Officer Lynn Hartley, PIPD, and the Presque Isle Fire Department.
The accident remains under investigation.
